Mohd Khair Hassan was born in Melaka, Malaysia. He received the B.Eng. degree (Hons.) in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Portsmouth, U.K., in 1998, the M.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Teknologi Malaysia, and the Ph.D. degree in automotive engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, UPM. His research interests include control systems, automotive control, automation systems, AI applications, x-by-wire technology especially in electric vehicle, that consist of energy management, battery balancing, regerative braking, steer-by-wire, and brake-by-wire. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer in the field of Electronic under Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), and a member of the Society of Automotive (SAE).

Prof. Hamiruce obtained his B.Eng in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Salford in 2003. He then obtained his doctorate, PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, from the University of Surrey in 2003. Since then, he has been serving as a lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Robotics. His outstanding achievements in research, publications, supervision and consultancy led to his appointment as a Professor of UPM in 2015. Currently, he is the Director of the Research Management Centre of UPM. He played a vital role in the ascendancy of UPM through the QS World University Rankings in 2016 and will continue to guide UPM to realise its vision to become a world class university.
